Who’s ready for the Gilmore Girls revival???
I. Am. So. Excited.
With just a couple weeks left until Lorelai, Rory, Luke, and all our favorite Stars Hollow characters return to us in the form of a Netflix mini-series (four 90-minute episodes are on the way!), I’m eagerly—i.e., impatiently—looking forward to where this new storyline will take us. Most importantly: What’s going on with Lorelai and Luke? Will Rory finally end up with Jess? How’s everyone coping after Richard’s passing? And what’s the deal with Kirk getting an invite to Friday Night Dinner?
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can watch the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life trailer below:
Thankfully, Netflix was gracious enough to tide over all the Gilmore crazies like me with a recent Luke’s Diner pop-up event. On October 5th, thousands of Gilmore Girls fans lined up outside participating coffee shops and bakeries across the U.S. for free java (first 200 people in line), a look at Luke’s-inspired signage, and the chance to relive their early-2000s, fangirl days.
There were several Luke’s pop-ups across Detroit, so I had no trouble finding a location near me. Selecting Avalon International Breads as our “Luke’s” of choice, a couple of friends (along with their kiddos) and I made our way to midtown for a morning filled with flannel, caffeine, and carbohydrates.

When we arrived around mid-morning, a line had made its way down the block and around the corner, so we claimed our spot at the end and turned our wait into an opportunity to hang out and chat. We couldn’t have asked for better weather (mid-70s and sunny!), so regardless of the wait (45 minutes? An hour?), time flew by and before we knew it, we were inside loading up on coffee, sandwiches, and pastries.
Above: Sadly, the cherry danishes were gone by the time it was my turn to order, but there were plenty of other delicious Avalon pastries to choose from.
How adorable are these two?! Despite the crowds, the staff at Avalon was top-notch, incredibly friendly, and on top of everything. (Thanks to my friend, Sarah, for this photo!)

I’ll be honest: while I was excited for our trip to Luke’s, I started the day expecting Black Friday-like madness and a quick in-and-out visit to grab a few snacks and photos. Instead, there were tables available for several groups (including our own), so my friends and I were able to have a fun lunch date amid all of the festivities (fun decór and Gilmore Girls soundtrack included!).
Channeling my inner Lorelai 😉
So the countdown continues . . . will you be contributing to the imminent crash of Netflix’s servers on November 25? Personally, I think staying up late on Thanksgiving night to watch an episode or two of Gilmore Girls sounds a lot more fun than waiting in line for Black Friday deals, but to each their own, right? 😉
