Welp, I FINALLY did it.
After nearly a decade and a half of writing things, photographing things, editing things, and even talking to a vertical phone camera and sharing short video snippets of my life online—the day has finally arrived. I am officially the proud owner of a YouTube vlog channel.
I can sit here and pretend that I had a good reason for holding off on this venture, and any excuse would have been perfectly understandable: I’ve been too busy, I was focusing on other projects, yadda yadda yadda. In reality, it came down to just a couple very simple facts: 1.) It sounded like a lot of work and 2.) I didn’t know if I could pull it off on my own.
Now, coming to you from the other side of it all, I know the truth. It IS a lot of work … 😂 BUT not in the way I originally expected. Editing a long-form video is time-consuming, but in all honesty, I enjoyed it. Splicing together a 16-minute visual storybook turned out to be surprisingly fun and creatively fulfilling, and I’m thrilled to have this new outlet where I can share my story with anyone who will watch.
So, what’s this YouTube channel all about?
If you’ve followed this blog or my social media channels over the years, you’ve probably witnessed more than one journey across Michigan, added a few delicious Detroit restaurants to your must-try list, and experienced the evolution of “Michigan Newbie” to “Here, let me give you some tips about your next Michigan trip.” It’s been a fantastic time building this community, and I plan on continuing the same—just through a new digital medium.
What does this mean for your blog?
You may have noticed that this blog has grown a little quieter over the past few years, mainly as I’ve moved a bulk of my online presence over to my Instagram page. With the addition of this YouTube channel, however, I actually have plans in the works to tie this blog in with multiple platforms (tldr; more posts coming your way!).
