A post about Cinderella? Well, naturally, I should open with some type of backstory that details how I grew up loving the cherished fairy tale. The storyline, the characters, and of course, the music that makes its way into various adaptations of this age-old masterpiece . . .
But honestly, who hasn’t experienced the magic of Cinderella? We know the story like the back of our hands for good reason: it’s a classic. It’s THE classic. And if you’re anything like me, you never turn down an opportunity to welcome another version into your realm of enjoyment. And when singing’s involved, that just makes the deal even sweeter.
[*Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets from Broadway in Detroit in exchange for writing this post. Opinions are honest and 100% mine.]
I’m thrilled to share that Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA (the popular, Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical) is playing at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre for a limited engagement from March 13-18, 2018! With a fresh take on the beloved tale, Cinderella combines the story’s most well-known elements—glass slippers, pumpkin carriage, and of course, the royal ball—with some surprising twists. Both hilarious and romantic, this contemporary musical portrays its title character as a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn’t let rags or gowns hinder her quest for kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.
Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, a new book by Douglas Carter Beane, and original book by Oscar Hammerstein II. Long-time fans of the musical will love hearing familiar numbers such as “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.”
